On Thursday, April 24, at 11AM, the Bookshop’s new Garden Book Club will gather for the first time. The group is led by Suzy Lazzari, a florist, flower farmer, and retired library director.
Each month, the club will gather in the Bookshop’s Reading Garden (pictured above) to discuss a book of practical gardening wisdom or a book about a particular garden and to share gardening tales, advice, and encouragement. After the meeting, everyone is encouraged to join Suzy for lunch at a local spot.
April’s book is “Your Natural Garden: A Practical Guide to Caring For An Ecologically Vibrant Home Garden,” a handbook for creating and maintaining a naturalistic garden, including how to encourage complexity, when and what to edit, whether to weed, how to succession plant, and when and how to cut the garden back. It is written by award-winning garden writer and horticulturalist Kelly Norris, former director of the Des Moines Botanical Garden. Gardenista calls the book “as inspiring as it is useful.”
Tickets are $30 (with copy of the book) or $5 (without the book). Mimosas or fruit juice are included. Please join the Garden Book Club mailing list to get more information and news of future gatherings.
