Journalist, world traveler, and historian Andrew Lawler captivated a full house of readers when he visited the Bookshop in 2021 to present his award-winning book “Under Jerusalem: The Buried History of the World’s Most Contested City.” He was invited to Frenchtown by his dear friend Kelly Pickering, our town librarian. Thanks, Kelly!
His new book of narrative history, “A Perfect Frenzy,” is just as fascinating as “Under Jerusalem.” It reveals a largely-untold cause of the Revolutionary War — Virginia’s rebellion against its Royal Governor and its decision to support the split from Britain.
As The Economist put it, Andrew Lawler’s gift is his “willingness to chase down every lead, no matter how outlandish, and his enthusiasm for a journey as much as the destination.” Historian Gerald Horne calls “A Perfect Frenzy” “pathbreaking…a gift this troubled nation needs as it approaches its 250th anniversary.”
This talk is free and all are welcome.
